Welcome! The Epsilon colony of Delta Kappa Alpha has been a resource to San Francisco State University since 2010. Delta Kappa Alpha(DKA) is a co-ed cinema fraternity with the mission to engage the community philanthropically, socially, and professionally as well as create meaningful connections between students and professionals.

Delta Kappa Alpha was founded at the University of Southern California in 1936 as a cinematography fraternity. Over time it became an all-encompassing cinema fraternity and spread across the U.S. and South America. By the 1980's, all chapters of the fraternity had disbanded after the Hollywood Blacklist period discouraged artists from joining.

In 2009, students at the University of Southern California revived Delta Kappa Alpha. Soon after, dedicated cinema students at San Francisco State University set out to bring DKA to the Bay Area. In Fall 2010 the twenty founding members of the SFSU Epsilon Colony began their journey. Today, Delta Kappa Alpha at San Francisco State University is a family of artists that continues to assist dedicated film-loving students carry on the tradition of learning and excellence each year with hands-on experience and strong values.

Our Mission

The mission of Delta Kappa Alpha is to foster lifelong character, collaborative and creative storytelling, ethical and productive business practices, philanthropic action, and fraternal bonds by and between students of the cinematic arts.

Delta Kappa Alpha: Students of All Majors

While the majority of Delta Kappa Alpha members are Cinema/Film/TV majors, the organization prides itself on its diverse student membership and can accept students from any major such as music, art, graphic design, animation, narrative studies, creative writing, engineering, etc.  This Fraternity is for students that are passionate about the cinematic arts, that embody the Delta Kappa Alpha values, and that meet the basic requirements for undergraduate or honorary membership.

Delta Kappa Alpha: A Professional Fraternity

A Professional Fraternity--in comparison with a social fraternity--has different values, a different focus, and is made up of different groups of students that concentrate on developing their careers and interests. Delta Kappa Alpha focuses on the growth of the cinematic arts. Our student-members come together because they share similar ambitions, personal values, and wish to create lifelong friendship through the learning and practice of the cinematic arts.
